Black Suit Devil represents all of these things.

With a tongue-in-cheek name meant to pique the curiosity and a tenacious DIY approach, 

Black Suit Devil has been spreading inspiration and awareness through music since 2015.

A Solo project led by Singer/Songwriter Andy Du Rego of Toronto, Ontario whose style has been likened to that of Ray LaMontagne, Tom Waits, and Chris Cornell.

With his melodic and thought provoking songwriting inspired by the Rock, Folk, Blues & Soul, Country genres, Andy continues to impress audiences with his signature raspy self-harmonizing dual vocal and passionate presence.  Black Suit Devil has toured / Performed all across Canada, parts of Mexico and has been a part of such festivals as Harvest Jazz & Blues, Living Roots Music Festival, Napatak Ramble, Dog Patch Music Festival, TD Newmarket Music Festival, Winterfolk XVII, ComingHome Festival, Gussapolooza and the Guinness World Record for Longest Concert by Multiple Artists, And many more...

On occasion Andy is backed by an array of talented musicians such as percussionists, bassists, guitarists, and violinists to bring different dynamics to each performance.

 

Over the years Black Suit Devil has shared stages and festival bills with such notable artists as Robert Plant, Nathaniel Rateliff, Gord Bamford, The White Buffalo, Philip Sayce, The Boxer Rebellion, Jeff Martin, Carole Pope, JD Simo, Julian Taylor, Spencer Burton among other great artists.

June 28th, 2024 will mark the release of Black Suit Devil's Third full length album "The Eternal Sleep".

Expanding into new musical territory the new album is B.S.D.'s finest work yet. The eight songs that make up the album were written and bed tracks recorded in a two week span during the lockdowns in 2020. On this Album Du Rego dives back into his roots as a Hard Rock, Grunge, Punk electric guitar player performing all the lead and rhythm guitar on the new album. Joined once again by John Brand on Bass with Vic Freitas on Drums / Percussion the new album showcases Du Rego's vocal diversity with his range and different vocal layers. The Eternal Sleep also has a returning guest appearances by Robyn White of Toronto Rock band "Byrdy" singing back up on "Let It Go" and features Ryan Funk performing a Peddle Steel Guitar on "New Day Sun". The Album has many lyrical themes both dark and beautiful exploring topics like a future world run by A.I. and its corporate overlords. Dealing with themes of isolation, mental health issues, depression, racial conflict and the growing number of suicides rates in our community's. The album also shines hope with a message of "The Time Is Now" to better one self and make inner change to ones life. Themes of love and new beginnings shine on the modern folk track "New Day Sun". Du Rego also pays tribute to all the hard work of being in the music business, life on the road, and extends appreciation for all his fans in the Punk anthem album closer "Shut The Punk Up". Recorded in San Pancho, Mexico and various places in Ontario Canada, The new album was Produced / Recorded by Andy Du Rego, mixed by 2x Juno Award winner for Kevin Dietz "Rock Album of The Year" ( The Glorious Sons , JJ Wilde )

and mastered by Noah Mintz (Billy Talent, Death From Above)    

 

“A Matter of Time”,  the second full length studio recording by Black Suit Devil was released November 15, 2019 gaining high reviews on Spill Magazine, Canadian Beats and Great Dark Wonder and has reached the #1 spot on CJSF’s Top 30 albums of the week, as well as charting multiple weeks in the Top 10 Folk/Roots/Blues categories on other independent radio stations on the !earshot charts. “Firefly”, the second single from the album, was nominated for a “Best Rock Performance” award at the 2020 IPMA (International Portuguese Music Awards).

 

With an eclectic mix of sounds ranging from Folk, Blues,70’s Rock n' Roll, New Orleans Big Band to soulful Ballads and upbeat Bluegrass, “A Matter Of Time” shows the strength and versatility in Du Rego’s songwriting. 

The heart and soul of the album lies within its subject matter which touches upon environmental issues, politics, human rights, mental illness, to love & loss and so many things in between.

Black Suit Devil’s debut album,  "The Freedom Sessions"  released in October 2017, included singles "Fumble", "Dreams" & "Carry On"  which is currently on rotation internationally on independent & college radio stations such as Blues Roots Radio, 89.5 The Valley FM, CFBX 92.5, CFUR 88.7FM , 97.9 FM CHSR, AM1380, 88.7 The Bay FM, as well as CBC radio.
